2026 Toyota RAV4: does it qualify?
Can't tell from the nameplate
Depends on your VIN - this nameplate is assembled in more than one country, so check the individual vehicle.
NHTSA's MY2026 Part 583 report lists more than one final-assembly country for the "Rav4 Hybrid" carline: Canada, Japan, United States. Which one applies depends on the individual vehicle. Toyota's own pressroom says Toyota Kentucky began assembly of the all-new RAV4 Hybrid in June 2026, and decoded 2026 RAV4 VINs come from Georgetown, Kentucky, and from Ohbu, Aichi in Japan. The MY2026 filing lists Canada for this carline but names no Canadian plant (the Woodstock and Cambridge decodes are MY2025 vehicles, cited on the 2025 page) - so check the VIN rather than the nameplate.
This is an estimate, not tax advice. It assumes the car is bought new, with a loan taken out after December 31, 2024, used mainly for personal purposes, and that the VIN is reported on Schedule 1-A.

Model-year note. The deduction depends on the loan date and the vehicle, not on the model year. A new RAV4 bought in 2026 with a 2026 loan still qualifies for 2026, 2027 and 2028 interest, however old the design is.
Why we say that
The interest on a car loan is deductible only if the vehicle was finally assembled in the United States. Our answer for the 2026 Toyota RAV4 comes from the manufacturer's own Part 583 (American Automobile Labeling Act) filing to NHTSA, which states the final assembly countries for each carline. The MY2026 report lists the United States with an additional final-assembly entry of Canada, Japan.
NHTSA's filing shows more than one final-assembly country for this carline, so the nameplate alone cannot answer the question. Two identical-looking Toyota RAV4s can have different answers. Decode the VIN above, or read the "Final Assembly Point" on the window sticker.
What you must still confirm yourself
- New. Your use has to be the first use after it is sold, registered or titled.
- The loan. Taken out after December 31, 2024, for the purchase, secured by a first lien.
- Personal use. More than 50% of the expected use, personal.
- Filing. The VIN must appear on Schedule 1-A, Part IV - otherwise no deduction.
